The Railways of Yorkshire

This website is created to portray the changing face of Yorkshire Railways over the last 50 years,it includes the transition from steam to diesel,and everything thereafter,including the rise and fall of the Class 56,and then the very coal trains that they were built to haul. Included in these pages are images from across six decades,which show not only the changing face of Yorkshire's railways but also the changes in the landscape that surrounds them,from the industrial heartlands and coalfields in West Yorkshire,to the North Yorkshire Moors and Settle to Carlisle line.
Our collection dates back as far as 1961,and is still constantly updating to this day. Alan Walker has an unbelievable collection of notes and train information for Featherstone,on the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway between Wakefield and Knottingley,and the history of that somewhat underrated line will be detailed on this website as it grows. Over the years Yorkshire has proved to have some of the most interesting railways and even in 2016 there is still great variety to be found within the county boundaries.
This website will also display our best images from outside Yorkshire,in a more limited amount,but for the most part,this is about one county.....Gods Own County.
